PEOPLE'S UNIVERSITY American History 2, The Civil War & Statehood: Tuesday, May 14 at 7 PM--Class 2, "Lincoln and the Secession Crisis," will offer a look at the four presidential campaigns of 1860; the secession movement and Lincoln's evolving positions toward it; the key relationship and correspondence of Abraham Lincoln and Alexander Stephens [vice president of the Confederacy]; and the decision of the Confederate national government to assault Fort Sumter. The instructor will be the highly regarded Civil War expert Rea Redd, Director of Eberly Library at Waynesburg University where he also serves as an instructor of American history. Since 1993, Redd has reenacted the American Civil War as a Federal infantryman, a Federal Medical Service Captain and as President Abraham Lincoln. He is the author of Gettysburg Campaign Study Guide, Volume One. People's University programs are free and open to the public.
