Special Program

Mountaintop Removal Mining

On Tuesday, July 24th at noon filmmaker Sasha Waters will screen segments of her award winning PBS documentary Razing Appalachia, a film that explores the controversial issue of mountaintop removal mining in West Virginia. It's the story of a remarkable grassroots fight against political inaction and against the second largest coal company in America. Ms. Waters will also show a brief clip from her new work-in-progress, a documentary called This American Gothic that uses the history of the famous painting by Grant Wood to explore the struggle of a rural Iowa town to survive in a 21st century economy. The film presentations will be followed by a question and answer session. Copies of Razing Appalachia will be available for sale. Please call the library at 304-232-0244 for more information.
