NEXT: Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
On Tuesday, March 2nd at noon, the Children’s and Adult Programming Departments of the Ohio County Public Library will offer a joint program to celebrate the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel--better known as Dr. Seuss. The library invites kids of all ages to enjoy songs from the hit Broadway show, “Seussical: The Musical,” readings by Howard Monroe and Sherrie McCutcheon from Dr. Seuss’s best loved books, and more. Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Patrons are invited to bring a bag lunch and free beverages are provided. Please call the library at 304-232-0244 for more information.

February 23: "A Look at Our Past...A Glimpse Into Our Future" with Diana Bell
On Tuesday, February 23rd at noon Diana L. Bell, LSW, Racial Justice Director at the YWCA in Wheeling, will present an overview of African American History called, “A Look at our Past...A Glimpse into our Future” at the Ohio County Public Library’s Lunch With Books program. February 16: Hearts of Gold
On Tuesday, February 16th at noon English Professor Dr. John Ernest, one of the editors of a new edition of Hearts of Gold, the 1896 novel by J. McHenry Jones (left), will be at the Ohio County Public Library’s Lunch With Books program. Jones was the principal of Lincoln School and a prominent African American leader of both Wheeling and the state of West Virginia. The new edition of his novel will be released by WVU Press in February 2009 in celebration of Black History Month. Dr. Ernest is an expert on 19th-century African American literature and the Eberly Family Distinguished Professor of American Literature at WVU. Today's Programs Cancelled
Due to the forecast of additional severe weather, the Lunch With Books program scheduled for today, Tuesday February 9, 2010 at noon, featuring Greg Kenney as York has been cancelled. The program will be rescheduled.
Greg's 4:00 PM program (Jackie Robinson) for the Children's Department has also been cancelled and will be rescheduled.

Next Tuesday, February 9: YORK
On Tuesday, February 9 at noon, Pittsburgh actor Greg Kenney will be at Lunch With Books at the Ohio County Public Library in Wheeling. Kenney will portray the slave York, who accompanied Lewis & Clark on their famous journey. Join York, as he takes us to the Pacific Ocean and explains how he interacted with the white men on the expedition, how he earned the respect of the Plains Indians, and how he struggled for his freedom after the expedition. Book Discussion Groups
The Ohio County Public Library facilitates book discussion groups for both young adults and adults. Currently, the OCPL offers two adult groups, which meet on the first Monday and third Thursday of each month.
In addition to its own growing collection, the OCPL has access to the book discussion collection of the West Virginia Library Commission.
